Spanish Intermediate 1 (A2.1) — Term 4, 2026

Begin the Spanish A2 pathway in a structured, supportive course for students who have completed Spanish Level 5 or have equivalent knowledge.

You’ll consolidate the main foundations of A1 while developing greater confidence discussing emotions, describing past events and narrating experiences using the preterite tense.

What You’ll Cover

• revision of common irregular verbs in the present tense
• using verbs including poder, querer, pedir and conocer
• talking about emotions using a wider range of vocabulary
• introducing the preterite tense
• forming regular preterite verbs ending in -ar, -er and -ir
• asking and saying how long ago something happened
• using expressions including hace, desde and desde cuándo
• describing and narrating past events
• forming common irregular verbs in the preterite
• using ser, ir, estar and ver in the past
• understanding the difference between ir and irse
• using the prepositions desde, durante and hasta
• improving your ability to narrate past experiences

Is This the Right Level?

This course is designed for students continuing directly from Spanish Level 5.

You should already be comfortable using regular and irregular verbs in the present tense, describing people and habits, discussing household responsibilities, and talking about recent events and experiences using the present perfect.
